BROWSE THE THINGS I DO

Wayne Chan had the honour of hosting the 7th annual Asia Clean Energy Summit (27-29 October 2020) that’s a part of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) at Marina Bay Sands, marking the resumption of MICE events in Singapore.
The three-day convention was truly revolutionary, as it was Asia’s first clean energy event since the global pandemic, seeing 1700 delegates worldwide, with about 100 VVIPs physically attending on site including Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu as the guest of honour at this first-of-its-kind hybrid show – featuring a stunning line up of 18 informative keynotes, 2 thought-provoking workshops and 11 panel discussions on clean and renewable energy that engaged and inspired the delegates and dignitaries in attendance.

Wayne was the official emcee of the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) 2020, hosted by Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, which took place from 17 – 20 November 2020, featuring strategic conference content, the Vietnam Prime Minister’s opening keynote address, ministerial sessions and C-suite dialogues streamed online across the 4 days.
AEBF is the only forum in the region where all 10 Asean Energy Ministers and Public and Private Sector Energy CXOs driving the region’s decarbonisation mission forward are available to network and engage with delegates.
The virtual forum featured a comprehensive and engaging content agenda with over 100 expert speakers, providing attendees with incomparable insights into The Shape of Energy Transition in ASEAN, Energy Transition in Practice and Forward-Looking Solutions & Investment for ASEAN’s Sustainable Future.

Held in Jakarta, the highly successful Indonesia PE-VC Summit organised by DealStreetAsia featured high calibre speakers, editorially-led agenda and top-class networking opportunities, gathering over 450 delegates from around the globe as well as the crème-de-la-crème of the industry to discuss the myriad opportunities in Indonesia – Southeast Asia’s largest market.
As the event’s official host, Wayne shared the stage with luminaries like John Riady, CEO, Lippo Karawaci or Ridzki Kramadibrata, President, Grab Indonesia, as the sessions delved into private equity trends in Indonesia; the emergence of venture capital growth funds; lessons that investors in Indonesia can learn from other markets and much more.

It was truly an honour for Wayne to anchor the Singapore HR Awards held at Resorts World Sentosa in August 2019.
Not an easy feat following in the footsteps of very capable celebrity hosts in previous years, Muttons In The Morning (2018 hosts) and Adrian Pang (2017 host), who set the bar super high.
But Wayne was very happy to bring his own formal but fresh flavour to this prestigious event.
Organised annually by Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI), The Singapore HR Awards celebrate leading organisations and HR professionals in their drive for impactful human capital strategies.
The 14th edition of this important, event, hosted by Wayne, saw 60 awards presented by Minister of State for Singapore Ministry of Manpower as well as Ministry of National Development, Zaqy Mohamad, to both public and private sector organisations with exemplary people management practices, across various sectors such as healthcare, education, construction, transport, FMCG, telecommunications, IT, hospitality and many more.

The opportunity to transform into different characters to tastefully match the party theme is something that Wayne is particularly adept at.
For Prudential’s 1000 pax gaming-themed dinner and dance which occupied two halls at Marina Bay Sands in 2018, he came as the Super Saiyan Goku from popular japanese manga Dragon Ball.
Here’s an insider secret – to get pumped to appear as a ripped super saiyan without donning a clumsy muscle suit, Wayne actually did 40 pull-ups a day two weeks prior to this show.
Wayne loves getting into full character for his clients’ shows, and looking as amazingly authentic as he can for audiences so he can pack more than a punch.

The National Environment Agency’s (NEA) 2019 celebrations featured an ultra-interesting theme that was not only ahead of its time, but also a reminder of a year in the future, 2036, when our landfill at Pulau Semakau will be completely filled.
Hence the theme 2036, Party of the Future, to thank some 600 industrious NEA officers who had been working tirelessly through the years to safeguard and nurture Singapore’s environmental future – and at the same time strengthening friendships and camaraderie through a memorable dinner and dance party.
This show was truly transcendent, as Wayne had to follow some truly top class acts who are the best in the biz such as Irene Ang, Gurmit Singh, Adrian Pang, Suhaimi Yusof, Hossan Leong and The Flying Dutchman, just to name a few of the amazing hosts from previous years.

It was real privilege for Wayne to host the Grand Finals and Results show of #AsiasGotTalent season 2 for #AXN. Wayne not only shared the stage with Asia’s best entertainment acts, he also got to get the live audience interacting with judges David Foster, Anggun and Jay Park upclose.
The key to success for this hosting engagement was to ensure that the emcee could deliver an international, family-friendly tone. This brief was given to Wayne by AXN’s marketing and production team, in light of some previous hosts being too “local” and “slapstick”, which they felt brought the show’s branding down and wasn’t delivering the kind of premium experience they wanted audiences watching the live shows to have.
Fortunately, hyping up global audiences tastefully is one of Wayne’s natural strengths as a professional compere!

It was not just an honour, but a privilege for Wayne to be invited to host and moderate the second Formula 1 conference, “Formula 1 and Beyond: The Next Lap” in 2019.
It was an event Wayne was supposed to helm the year before as well but the organisers reached him just a little too late, when he had already made plans to be in London at the time.
Organized by Singapore Grand Prix to bring F1 closer to the community, the event featured F1’s rich 69-year history, discovering how it is nurturing passion for racing through esports, and getting insights into how McLaren is going above and beyond, to deliver transformative technology, not just on the race track, but to society and people’s lives.
Lucky fans at the event, who had come from all over the world, also got the chance to win tickets to a Pit Lane Experience to get a sneak peek of the Formula 1 cars up close and even a special drivers’ autograph session to meet their favourite drivers in person, complete with cocktails and canapes before the race.

Wayne welcomed the Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry, Brunei Darussalam, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mat Suny Bin Haji Mohd Hussein as well as many other foreign dignitaries as our distinguished guests to the 7th edition of Gas Asia Summit Conference & Exhibition (GAS 2019) in Singapore, as part of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW). Firmly positioning Singapore as the leading trade, services and innovation hub, GAS 2019 is a regional collaborative platform to showcase investment opportunities and dynamic developments in Asia’s natural gas and LNG sector It is also THE premier platform for policy makers, business leaders, academics and solution providers to convene, connect and co-create partnerships for a better energy future – presenting an annual opportunity to connect with the most influential energy leaders, mostly C-level attendees, from around the region shaping the natural gas and LNG industry. As the former environment beat journalist at CNA, Wayne found hosting this event a major treat – both to catch up with old friends in the energy sector, and to also be apprised of the latest developments.
