BROWSE THE THINGS I DO
Wayne Chan had the honour of hosting the 7th annual Asia Clean Energy Summit (27-29 October 2020) that’s a part of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) at Marina Bay Sands, marking the resumption of MICE events in Singapore.
The three-day convention was truly revolutionary, as it was Asia’s first clean energy event since the global pandemic, seeing 1700 delegates worldwide, with about 100 VVIPs physically attending on site including Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu as the guest of honour at this first-of-its-kind hybrid show – featuring a stunning line up of 18 informative keynotes, 2 thought-provoking workshops and 11 panel discussions on clean and renewable energy that engaged and inspired the delegates and dignitaries in attendance.
Wayne was the official emcee of the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) 2020, hosted by Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, which took place from 17 – 20 November 2020, featuring strategic conference content, the Vietnam Prime Minister’s opening keynote address, ministerial sessions and C-suite dialogues streamed online across the 4 days.
AEBF is the only forum in the region where all 10 Asean Energy Ministers and Public and Private Sector Energy CXOs driving the region’s decarbonisation mission forward are available to network and engage with delegates.
The virtual forum featured a comprehensive and engaging content agenda with over 100 expert speakers, providing attendees with incomparable insights into The Shape of Energy Transition in ASEAN, Energy Transition in Practice and Forward-Looking Solutions & Investment for ASEAN’s Sustainable Future.
Held in Jakarta, the highly successful Indonesia PE-VC Summit organised by DealStreetAsia featured high calibre speakers, editorially-led agenda and top-class networking opportunities, gathering over 450 delegates from around the globe as well as the crème-de-la-crème of the industry to discuss the myriad opportunities in Indonesia – Southeast Asia’s largest market.
As the event’s official host, Wayne shared the stage with luminaries like John Riady, CEO, Lippo Karawaci or Ridzki Kramadibrata, President, Grab Indonesia, as the sessions delved into private equity trends in Indonesia; the emergence of venture capital growth funds; lessons that investors in Indonesia can learn from other markets and much more.
It was truly an honour for Wayne to anchor the Singapore HR Awards held at Resorts World Sentosa in August 2019.
Not an easy feat following in the footsteps of very capable celebrity hosts in previous years, Muttons In The Morning (2018 hosts) and Adrian Pang (2017 host), who set the bar super high.
But Wayne was very happy to bring his own formal but fresh flavour to this prestigious event.
Organised annually by Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI), The Singapore HR Awards celebrate leading organisations and HR professionals in their drive for impactful human capital strategies.
The 14th edition of this important, event, hosted by Wayne, saw 60 awards presented by Minister of State for Singapore Ministry of Manpower as well as Ministry of National Development, Zaqy Mohamad, to both public and private sector organisations with exemplary people management practices, across various sectors such as healthcare, education, construction, transport, FMCG, telecommunications, IT, hospitality and many more.
The opportunity to transform into different characters to tastefully match the party theme is something that Wayne is particularly adept at.
For Prudential’s 1000 pax gaming-themed dinner and dance which occupied two halls at Marina Bay Sands in 2018, he came as the Super Saiyan Goku from popular japanese manga Dragon Ball.
Here’s an insider secret – to get pumped to appear as a ripped super saiyan without donning a clumsy muscle suit, Wayne actually did 40 pull-ups a day two weeks prior to this show.
Wayne loves getting into full character for his clients’ shows, and looking as amazingly authentic as he can for audiences so he can pack more than a punch.
The National Environment Agency’s (NEA) 2019 celebrations featured an ultra-interesting theme that was not only ahead of its time, but also a reminder of a year in the future, 2036, when our landfill at Pulau Semakau will be completely filled.
Hence the theme 2036, Party of the Future, to thank some 600 industrious NEA officers who had been working tirelessly through the years to safeguard and nurture Singapore’s environmental future – and at the same time strengthening friendships and camaraderie through a memorable dinner and dance party.
This show was truly transcendent, as Wayne had to follow some truly top class acts who are the best in the biz such as Irene Ang, Gurmit Singh, Adrian Pang, Suhaimi Yusof, Hossan Leong and The Flying Dutchman, just to name a few of the amazing hosts from previous years.
It was real privilege for Wayne to host the Grand Finals and Results show of #AsiasGotTalent season 2 for #AXN. Wayne not only shared the stage with Asia’s best entertainment acts, he also got to get the live audience interacting with judges David Foster, Anggun and Jay Park upclose.
The key to success for this hosting engagement was to ensure that the emcee could deliver an international, family-friendly tone. This brief was given to Wayne by AXN’s marketing and production team, in light of some previous hosts being too “local” and “slapstick”, which they felt brought the show’s branding down and wasn’t delivering the kind of premium experience they wanted audiences watching the live shows to have.
Fortunately, hyping up global audiences tastefully is one of Wayne’s natural strengths as a professional compere!
It was not just an honour, but a privilege for Wayne to be invited to host and moderate the second Formula 1 conference, “Formula 1 and Beyond: The Next Lap” in 2019.
It was an event Wayne was supposed to helm the year before as well but the organisers reached him just a little too late, when he had already made plans to be in London at the time.
Organized by Singapore Grand Prix to bring F1 closer to the community, the event featured F1’s rich 69-year history, discovering how it is nurturing passion for racing through esports, and getting insights into how McLaren is going above and beyond, to deliver transformative technology, not just on the race track, but to society and people’s lives.
Lucky fans at the event, who had come from all over the world, also got the chance to win tickets to a Pit Lane Experience to get a sneak peek of the Formula 1 cars up close and even a special drivers’ autograph session to meet their favourite drivers in person, complete with cocktails and canapes before the race.
Wayne welcomed the Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry, Brunei Darussalam, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mat Suny Bin Haji Mohd Hussein as well as many other foreign dignitaries as our distinguished guests to the 7th edition of Gas Asia Summit Conference & Exhibition (GAS 2019) in Singapore, as part of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW). Firmly positioning Singapore as the leading trade, services and innovation hub, GAS 2019 is a regional collaborative platform to showcase investment opportunities and dynamic developments in Asia’s natural gas and LNG sector It is also THE premier platform for policy makers, business leaders, academics and solution providers to convene, connect and co-create partnerships for a better energy future – presenting an annual opportunity to connect with the most influential energy leaders, mostly C-level attendees, from around the region shaping the natural gas and LNG industry. As the former environment beat journalist at CNA, Wayne found hosting this event a major treat – both to catch up with old friends in the energy sector, and to also be apprised of the latest developments.
What THEY SAY about wayne
Wayne did a stellar job in bringing his high energy hosting style to HSBC Life’s 2021 mid-year celebratory event where our bank’s staff gathered virtually to recognize some of our key achievements and milestones.
His smooth and punchy delivery was executed remotely , and is something that really makes him stand out as an professional emcee. He is an asset for any team bonding and corporate events. Kudos Wayne!
We’ve had Wayne for several of Canon’s important and exclusive product launch events over the years, where he was not only responsible for presenting our latest digital offerings to our key stakeholders, but also in charge of entertaining them with games and activities in appreciation of their continued support and partnership.
Wayne never fails to help bring the right amount of energy and engagement to each show that he’s hosted with us, be it corporate events, business conference or a new product launch.
If you’re looking for a professional emcee with great versatility, who can deliver both fun and formal segments at the same event, then Wayne is your man!
Wayne is one of our top choices for hosting events when it comes to many of the major global conferences and summits that we organise for DMG’s distinguished clientele in the energy sector, including the Gas Asia Summit and the Asean Energy Business Forum.
One of the challenges of such mega conventions is delivering the somewhat serious subject matter in a way that captures an audience’s attention in an elegant and engaging manner.
Wayne is one of the rare few who is able to be both dignified and charismatic emcee, making sure that he doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to sudden changes or pronouncing slightly trickier international names, yet lending prestige in the way he delivers the content.
We are thankful to Wayne for his dedication to always making a difference at our events!
When we were planning the first ever Christmas countdown show for Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay, we knew we needed a host that fully embodies the Yuletide spirit and was capable of capturing the attention of a crowd in a public setting. Wayne was the first name that came to mind.
Christmas Wonderland is Singapore’s biggest annual Yuletide fair which has attracted approximately half a million visitors annually on average since its debut in 2014, so it was crucial to select the right great emcee who could bring the holiday mood and festive cheer to a massive fairground.
Wayne was able to personify what we envisioned, bringing a commanding presence to our show and even took the initiative to put on his own Christmas themed outfit, fitting right in with Santa, his elves, and other magical Christmas characters at our event. We look forward to working with him again for more future large-scale productions
Wayne is one of the top emcees that I have used for many of my events. His high level of versatility, professionalism and adaptability is the reason why we have selected him to host a variety of events for our diverse clientele. We have engaged him to anchor family day events, carnivals, corporate dinner events, symposiums etc and even when we had to pivot to virtual events due to COVID-19 in 2020, he still remains one of the most highly sought after presenters in the virtual sphere. I would definitely recommend him for any show, whether it’s hybrid, digital or a physical live event – he always delivers!
The team engaged Wayne as a host and moderator for the Formula 1 tech conference, one of Singapore GP’s community events in 2019.
We had a fully subscribed event, and Wayne excelled with his high positive energy and sharp wit. We were impressed by how he was able to engage the diverse crowd and think on his feet as he moderated panel discussions with speakers from the F1 fraternity.
Wayne did a great job at the event, and comes highly recommended.
Lively, confident and boisterous.
These were the defining characteristics of Wayne’s hosting performance when he was engaged to emcee Epson’s annual Lunar New Year prosperity corporate dinner in 2020, which was organized to recognize and appreciate our top business partners and distributors.
It was especially impressive to watch Wayne transit from the more formal awards segments to become a full-on entertainer conversing in English, Mandarin and dialect to rile up the crowd with fun game segment and activities, even physically running from one end of the ballroom to another to ensure no one was left out as he built the desired festive atmosphere to usher in the new Year of the Rat.
Wayne’s a real natural on stage, very hardworking, and we look forward to having him again for various events in future
As a host and emcee, Wayne is a true professional good emcee – respectful of clients, the events team, takes initiative to work well with my team and he is always well-prepared.
It is a real pleasure working with Wayne. He hosts meaningfully, thoughtfully, and makes sure the event is well enjoyed and well presented, the way the brand should be. I have worked with several emcees in the past, and I am glad to say I never have to worry about Wayne getting names and designations mixed up (very impt and has appallingly happened for my events) and never have to worry about him rushing through the programme just so he can get paid (yes, I had an emcee once who rattled off award ceremonies recipient names without a care to who was on stage!).
I hope that you enjoy working with Wayne as much as my team and I do.
As a corporate events company, the reason why I often recommend Wayne to my clients is his impressive range as an interactive emcee. From hosting events like FMCG roadshows to attract heartlanders to spend on household products at our local supermarkets, to helming exclusive overseas property investment seminars aimed at piquing the interest of foreign investors in a posh 5-star hotel, there is almost no situation where we’ve deployed him that he cannot handle. Look no further, Wayne is a reliable, flexible and adaptable master-of-ceremonies you desire for your show!
I cannot recommend Wayne enough! When I was with German MNC Thyssenkrupp, I was looking out for a bilingual emcee that was able to host our CNY and anniversary corporate events. We had customers coming from all over Southeast Asia and being in the manufacturing industry, it was a tough crowd to navigate and manage. Wayne exemplified flexibility and was able to liven up the crowd together numerous times. He was also able to switch between English, Mandarin and the local dialects well. He is so full of energy and that energy was infectious that night. We were impressed with his attitude and his work ethics. I’m more than happy to work with him again and I’m sure that anyone who picks him to host their event will not be disappointed.
